VEVO HD: Feast your eyes on free music videos and more
A few months ago music video site VEVO launched an iPhone app for streaming content to a mobile device. Now there’s an iPad-specific version called VEVO HD. It’s a free app that serves up high-quality music videos from over 7,500 popular artists. The app is rich with video content beyond just music videos. There are exclusives like behind-the-scenes looks into the music videos, VEVO originals, music video premieres, and live-streamed music events.
Get some culture with the PBS iPad app
PBS just released its “PBS for iPad” application. So what does it do? It’s pretty much a specialized PBS video player. If you head to the PBS site on the Safari app, you’ll see the much dreaded message that Adobe Flash Player is required. Since Flash on iOS is a nonstarter, apps are a great workaround and that is what this PBS app is.
The application has an easy to understand interface. On to the top pane you’ll see a carousel of featured videos and on the bottom you’ll see icons for specific programs. The left side has four simple icons – one for featured videos, a program listing guide to tell you what’s on your local PBS station, a search button, and a favorites button.

VLC on iPad: Theoretically awesome, practically pretty good
I got word that VLC officially hit the iPad and I was psyched. I had previously tested out the Xvid-playing app CineXPlayer to lousy results and recommended that you stick to Apple-approved formats for your iPad. Then an app calling itself “VLC” appeared.
If you watch video on your computer, you probably know about VLC — it is the Swiss-army knife of video players. Dang near every file format plays well on VLC, plus it is free.
The free iPad app, on the other hand, is not quite as powerful as its desktop sibling. Being the nerd that I am, I read the included instructions, and loaded the app up with videos through iTunes. I threw a ton of file formats at it: AVI (both Xvid and DivX varieties), M4V, MKV, even VOB. Read the rest of this entry »

iLunascape rethinks the web browser for iPad
Apple’s mobile Safari redefined the mobile web browsing experience; iLunascape rethinks the way that we should interact with a web browser on an iPad.
Some may be surprised to know that there are third party browsers available for iOS, but there are actually quite a lot of options and iLunascape is just the latest.
This tabbed browser moves many controls such as search, bookmarks, tabs and more to the bottom of the screen. We tested out iLunscape and found it to be an interesting twist on browsing the web.
