Discover Android wallpapers socially with RedWall
It’s not hard to find or design custom wallpapers for Android phones. You can pretty much set any picture stored on your SD card as a wallpaper. But not all pictures are created equal, and some look much better than others on your phone’s Home Screen. Finding the right colors, designs, and pictures to compliment your personal widgets and app icons can take some time.
RedWall makes the process a bit simpler by providing a one-stop-shop for finding, downloading, and installing Android wallpapers. It’s also easy to submit your own wallpapers. That’s because RedWall grabs its data from reddit.com, or rather from a subreddit at reddit.com/r/redwall.
That means you can browse the latest selection, upload your own images, or vote using the reddit web site. Then you can use the RedWall app on your phone to browse by the hottest wallpapers ranked daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. The app shows thumbnail icons and names for each wallpaper — although you may have to hit the refresh button now and then if thumbnails don’t load automatically.
You can tap on any listing to download the image and set it as your wallpaper. Images are stored in a redwall folder on your SD card.
It would be nice if you could also see reddit comments in the app, or view full sized pictures before downloading and setting an image as your wallpaper. But as it is, the app provides a pretty good way to find new wallpapers while the web site provides a good forum for submitting and discussing them.

C-ThruFone Live Wallpaper for Android kinda makes your home screen transparent

C-ThruFone is a Live wallpaper for Android 2.1 and up which uses a live feed from your phone’s camera as the background for your home screen. The effect is pretty cool, if somewhat useless.

The developer says you’ll “never trip up when checking your widgets walking again,” but I think that’s a solution looking for a problem. Honestly, the only reason to install C-ThruFone is because it’s cool.
Unfortunately it’s also a little buggy. On my Google Nexus One, the camera image was displayed at a 90 degree angle. Reading through some of the comments in the Android Market, it looks like I’m not the only one. Some users have also reported that they get Force Close error messages. Your results may vary.
C-ThruFone is available as a free download from the Android Market.
Mario Live Wallpaper for Google Android is awesome, distracting
One of the coolest, and most useless features in Google Android 2.1 and 2.2 is support for live wallpapers. Instead of just staring at a static image beneath your home screen icons, live wallpapers let you watch grass blow in the wind or ripples form on water. They look awesome, but the motion can be kind of distracting, and live wallpapers are a bit of an unnecessary drain on the battery.

Mario Live Wallpaper is by far the most distracting live wallpaper I’ve seen to date, thanks to its high speed motion which really just makes it a bit harder to find the icons and widgets you’re looking for. But it’s still absolutely awesome watching Mario run through random video game levels on your home screen and it serves the primary purpose of any live wallpaper: giving you something to show off to your friends.
Just choose the Mario Live Wallpaper from your wallpaper list, flash your phone at your friends to see their oohs and ahhs, and when they’re not looking go ahead and flip back to something more boring so that you can get on with your life

GeoPix changes your Android wallpaper based on your location

Have a hard time sticking to just a single wallpaper on your Android phone? GeoPix is a utility that lets you automatically switch between wallpapers based on your physical location. Basically, you can set as many geographical locations as you like and then set a wallpaper to go with each one. As you walk from one location to the next, GeoPix will change your background. There’s also an option to send you a notification letting you know the wallpaper has changed, so you won’t miss the action if your phone is, you know, in your pocket while you’re travelling.

GeoPix comes with a fairly large catalog of wallpapers to choose from which you can search or browse by category. And you can also grab any image from the Android Gallery app and make it your desktop. In other words, you can snap a picture of your house and use GeoPix to automatically change your wallpaper to that picture when you walk toward your house.
The location chooser is pretty neat. You can either enter a location by address or hit a button to zoom into your current location. Then you use the slider to change the size of the location. If you want your “home” wallpaper to show up just when you’re within a few feet of your house, you can do that. Or you can make your home wallpaper the default for several city blocks or even a whole city.
Honestly, I’m not sure how useful GeoPix is… but it’s a pretty nifty concept. And the app is available as a free download from the Android Market.
You can find a few more images after the break.
