The BlackBerry is best known as a smartphone with a corporate bent. And LinkedIn is sort of like Facebook for professionals. So you kind of have to wonder why it’s taken so long for LinkedIn to get around to launching a native BlackBerry app. The company has offered an iPhone app for a while, and today LinkedIn finally got around to releasing a client for BlackBerry.
The LinkedIn for BlackBerry app requires a BlackBerry Tour, Curv, or Bold with OS 4.3 or newer. I offers the ability to see the latest updates from your contacts, search for new or existing connections, send and respond to invitations, and send and receive messages.
That last one is pretty interesting, because LinkedIn works with your BlackBerry mail app so that new messages show up automatically in your inbox. You can also send your LinkedIn contacts directly to your BlackBerry contact list. And there’s calendar integration so that you can copy events from your LinkedIn calendar to your BlackBerry calendar.
LinkedIn for BlackBerry should be available in the BlackBerry App World soon. In the meantime, you can grab the download link from LinkedIn.
