Facebook has released an updated Android client that adds one major new feature: messaging. You can now see messages from your inbox and send private messages to other users.

In order to launch the messaging feature, just hit the Inbox icon on the Facebook home screen. It replaces the “Take Photo” icon that had previously been there.

There’s still no support for Facebook Chat though. In other words, you can use the app for email-like communications, but there’s no support for real-time instant messaging yet.

You can download the updated version of Facebook for Android for free from the Android Market.
