SPB TV is a mobile app that lets you watch live TV from over a hundred TV stations around the globe. Don’t expect to see Prime Time programs from major TV networks, but if you’re looking for a way to channel flip between live broadcasts from more than 17 countries, SPB TV will do the trick. There’s also an integrated TV guide to help you figure out what’s on without waiting for a stream to load.
SPB has offered a $14.95 Windows Mobile app for a while. This week the company released a free WebOS version of SPB TV for the Palm Pre and Pre Plus. As far as I can tell, the WebOS version has all the features of the Windows Mobile app, but it costs about $15 less — and is supported by advertising. When you flip channels, you’ll see an ad in the WebOS version of SPB TV.
SPB TV for WebOS has a picture-in-picture “quick channel preview” feature plus suport for MPEG4 and H.264 video playback. You’ll need WebOS 1.4 or above to use the app, and you’ll want to have an internet connection that can handle data streams between 200 and 500kbps.
You can check out a video demo of SPB TV for WebOS after the break. The app is available as a free download from the Palm App Catalog.
