As expected, the folks at Bitbop have started testing a new app that lets you watch full-length TV shows on a smartphone. Bitbop Beta is now available for download for a handful of BlackBerry devices including the Bold 900, Bold 9700, Curve, 8900 and Tour 9630. Android and iPhone versions are expected soon.
The exciting thing about Bitbop is that the company has lined up 25 content partners including NBC, CBS, USA, MTV, TLC, A&E and News Corp. Those companies have a pretty strong lineup of TV shows, which users can stream over a WiFi or 3G connection… or download to their mobile devices. If Hulu doesn’t act fast, Bitbop could soon dominate the mobile TV space in the US.
Right now Bitbop is available as a free service, but the company plans to launch a 410/month subscription plan that will offer access to a larger selection of video content.
