Netflix has a pretty nifty iPad app that lets subscribers watch streaming video on the tablet. But the company has yet to offer an app for the iPhone or iPod touch. Fortunately, a hacker has stepped up and modified the iPad app to work on Apple’s smaller devices.

If you value your warranty or battery life, you might not want to try this, but apparently if you jailbreak your iPhone and copy some of the iPad media player framework to your iPhone or iPod touch, you can trick the Netflix app into running.

The Netflix app clearly isn’t optimized for the iPhone. The person who figured out how to get it running reports that the app used up about 25% of his battery life after streaming video for just 15 minutes. The app also crashes frequently and takes a long time to load over 3G.
