Palm hasn’t officially given WebOS developers access to the camera or microphone in the latest software development kits. While those features are expected to be available in an update later this year, there’s already a third party app that lets you record audio using the mic on Palm Pre. As an added bonus, it can also record any audio playing on your device — making it easy to create ringtones, for instances.
The only catch is that zcorder is a homebrew app that can only be installed if you load Preware on your Palm Pre to enable the installation of unofficial apps.On the bright side the app is free, and lets you save your recordings as MP3s in a range of bitrates, sample rates, and qualities.
The app is available as a public beta. Earlier test versions were referred to as Precorder.
