In a strange twist of fate, the BBC has been offering a series of iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps outside of Britain for months. But the free news apps weren’t available in the UK because the BBC Trust had to look at the issue — which they did, eventually deciding that the apps will basically make it easier for people to access BBC content without actually creating any new content. No, I don’t know why it took so long to reach that rather obvious conclusion.
Eventually the BBC will also offer an iPlayer app and a BBC Sport app in the iTunes App Store.
