OpenFeint is a social gaming platform for iOS. The company describes itself as XBOX Live meets Facebook for the iPhone, providing users with ways to find new games, chat with other users and participate in forums, track achievements, and view high scores. There are currently thousands of games using the platform, but they’re all limited to the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

This summer, the company is bringing OpenFeint to the Android Platform, which could be a pretty big deal for Android games. Right now there are thousands of excellent apps for Android… but I’ve noticed that high quality video games are kind of hard to come by. This annoucement could help that, since the company says that big name publishers including Astraware, Glu Mobile, Hudson Soft, and Digital Chocolate as well as a numebr of independent developers will be bringing their content to Android.

OpenFeint for Android will include a software developt kit, game discovery store, and mobile payment tool.
