The TV.com app for Google Android is one of the best tools available for streaming clips and full length episodes from recent and classic TV shows on an Android phone. Unfortunately, that’s not really saying much, since there are no official Netflix or Hulu apps for Android yet.
To be perfectly honest, the selection of full length episodes available from the TV.com app is pretty sparse. But if what you’re looking for are short clips from TV shows airing on CBS, the CW, Showtime, and a handful of other networks, the TV.com app has got you covered.
You can find full length episodes of some newer shows, such as CBS news. And “classic” programs including Jericho, MacGuyver, Melrose Place, Perry Mason, Twin Peaks, The Twilight Zone, and Star Trek are available.
I’m probably being too harsh though. Because honestly, if you told me there was an app that did nothing but stream old episodes of Star Trek and The Twilight Zone, I’d probably be interested. I was just hoping for a bit more current content.
Some content is available from CBS, Showtime, The CW, CNET, Gamespot, CHOW, and there’s a category called “web shows.” In addition to browsing by network and show, you can search the content library or view the “most popular” videos. You can also add programs to a favorites list for easier navigation.
The streaming video quality is decent over WiFi, but not great. The quality drops a bit when you use a 3G connection, and some videos aren’t available to view over 3G at all.
TV.com for Android is available as a free download from the Android Market. You can find a few more screenshots after the break.
according to searches and QR code, app is no longer .. :( ?
It still shows up for me. What country are you in, and what version of Google Android are you using?
