Apple’s FaceTime app for the iPhone 4 lets you make video calls to other iPhone 4 users. There’s just one catch: it only works over WiFi, not 3G, which means you can talk face to face at home, at the office, or in a coffee shop, but probably not while you’re walking down the street.

Depending on who you ask, that’s because the call quality wouldn’t be as good over 3G, or because it would eat up more network bandwidth than carriers would like. But if you have a jailbroken iPhone 4, now an app called My3G that will let you make FaceTime calls over 3G networks.

The app runs $3.99 and basically it sounds like it tricks your phone into thinking that your 3G connection is a WiFi connection.

My3G doesn’t just work with FaceTime. You can also use other iOS apps and functions that are normally restricted to WiFi connections. That includes watching HD YouTube videos or making calls over Skype or other VoIP software. While FaceTime only works with the iPhone 4, My3G can do its WiFi spoofing thing for other devices if you’re willing to plunk down $3.99 to make Skype calls over 3G on an older iPhone.
