LucasArts has temporarily marked down the price of Monkey Island 2 Special Edition for the iPhone and iPod touch by.. oh, about 800%. The game normally runs $7.99, but for a limited time you can pick it up for $0.99.

Monkey Island 2 Lechuck’s Revenge was originally released as a point-and-click adventure game for the PC back in 1991. But it honestly doesn’t feel dated, especially since LucasArts spruced up the graphics and sound and added complete voice over audio using the original cast.

What’s more, you can choose to either play the classic game or the new version with the improved graphics.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that I couldn’t get through the animated opening sequence because every few second the game dumped me back out to the start screen. Once I skipped past all those sequences though, gameplay was pretty good, and the point-and-click-style game worked very well on a touchscreen.

You can check out a few more screen shots after the break.

Update: It looks like LucasArts decided to go all out and offer the first Secret of Monkey Island game for just $0.99 as well.
