Yahoo has announced plans to bring video chat capabilities to its Yahoo Messenger apps for Google Android and iOS. This will allow users who have phones with front-facing cameras to make calls to other Yahoo Messenger users, whether they’re on a mobile phone or a PC.

Unlike Apple’s FaceTime application which is WiFi-only, Yahoo Messenger’s video chat service will work over WiFi and 3G networks.

Tango and Fring already offer similar capabilities for both Android and iOS, but Yahoo Messenger is a much bigger name. There are already mroe than 80 million users of the company’s desktop and mobile software.

The updated versions of Yahoo Messenger for Android and iOS should be available soon.
