Amazon has launched a new iOS app that you can use to do a little comparison shopping from the aisle of the local store. Not sure if Target, Best Buy, or your local grocery store has the best price on that thing you’re looking at? Just snap a photo, scan a barcode, or speak the name of the product into your iPhone and Amazon Price Check will let you know how much the item costs from Amazon.com.
That’s all well and good, but there actually plenty of other mobile apps that will show you the best prices from a number of stores, including he PricerGrabber apps for iPhone and Android, and Google Shopper (which is currently only available for Android).
Still, if you’re a big fan of shopping on Amazon, I can see how the Price Check app would come in handy.
The app also works with the new iPod touch, but since the camera doesn’t autofocus, you can’t scan barcodes. You can only snap photos or speak the item name, which means you’ll need to rely on speech and image recognition which is pretty good, but not always perfect. The snap-a-photo feature currently supports books, DVDs, CDs, and video games, with more categories coming soon.
Amazon Price Check is available as a free download from the App Store.
