The folks at XDA-Developers have received a series of photos of what looks like a new Samsung Nexus S smartphone running Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Unfortunately the photos are kind of blurry and don’t show us much of anything about the hardware — or software.

For the most part, the Gingerbread shown off in the photos looks an awful lot like Google Android 2.2 Froyo. There are a few subtle differences. For instance, the battery status meter in the notification bar has been switched from horizontal to vertical. There’s also a heck of a lot more color in the notification bar, including new green WiFi meters.

But either Gingerbread is going to be a very small, incremental update, or these photos simply don’t show off the good bits.
