Capcom has released an iOS app called Capcom Arcade which collects 4 of classic Capcom games including Street Fighter II, 1932, Ghouls N’ Ghosts, and Commando. The app is available as a free, ad-supported download from the App Store… but there’s a catch.
Like a real arcade, you need tokens to play games. And Capcom Arcade only gives you 3 tokens a day for free. You need to buy tokens if you want to keep playing… or spend a bit more cash to just buy the game.
$0.99 gets you ten tokens, or $2.99 lets you buy the ability to buy an arcade game and play it any time you want. In other words, you’d have ot pay about $12 for unlimited plays on each app. Or you can just play three times per day and call it quits.
Like most classic arcade games, the controls don’t translate perfectly to the iPhone/iPod touch screen. It can be a bit tricky to control the virtual joystick and press the virtual buttons. But I suppose Capcom Arcade is still a lot cheaper than buying a real arcade game and sticking it in your living room.
You can check out some more screenshots after the break.
