As part of a month-long holiday promotion, Gameloft is offering Rayman 2: The Great Escape for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad for free today. The game normally runs $6.99, and it was designed to feel like the PlayStation/Nintendo 64 classic. Sure, that game was released almost 12 years ago, but the game still looks great when you put it on a 3.5 inch display.

The game runs on iOS 3.1.2 and up and features 45 different 3D environments, which should provide you with at least a few good hours of game play.

The on-screen controls are reasonably easy to use, with a D-pad on the left and jump and fire buttons on the left. You have to lift your hand and drag on the screen to change the camera angle though, which can be a bit distracting at times.

Overall, for the price of free, Rayman 2 is an awesome game for iOS. You can download it for free today from the App Store. Tomorrow the price goes back up.

You can find some more screenshots after the break.
