Twidroyd is one of the most popular third party Twitter clients for Google Android, and for good reason. The app has a huge list of features, including the usual goodies such as the ability to track your public timeline, update your status, view direct messages and @mentions, view user profiles, and follow or unfollow users. But there are a few other features that really make Twidroyd stand out, including:

  • Support for threaded message views

    Scan to download
  • LivePreview in portrait mode which lets you tap a Tweet with a link to see a preview of the target page
  • Photo and video posting
  • Skins
  • Background notifications
  • URL shortening with bit.ly support
  • Custom alert ringtones
  • Shake phone to refresh your timeline

Twidroyd annoyed many longtime users recently by inserting ads into the free version of the app, but this week the company decided it would rather have happy customers than advertising revenue, so the latest free version of Twidroyd is once again ad-free. The company is “re-evaluating” its business model, so the developers are clearly going to have to come up with another way to make money at some point, but if you were turned off by Twidroyd’s ads, it might be time to give th eapp another try.

There’s still a Pro version of Twidroyd available for download from the Android Market for $3.99, but honestly, at this point I’m not sure there are any differences between the free and paid app. That said, if you want to support the developers, it probably couldn’t hurt to spend a little cash on the Pro version.

Twidroyd 4.3.2 is available as a free download from the Android Market.
