Some leaked slides showing Research in Motion’s upcoming BlackBerry phone plans have hit the web, including some details about the next-generation of BlackBerry OS.

While the update to OS 6 in 2010 was pretty major, bringing a completely refreshed user interface, web browser, and social features, the next OS update will be a bit more modest. But BlackBerry OS 6.1 still looks like it will pack some interesting new features including:

  • Support for Near Field Communications (NFC)
  • HD video recording and playback
  • HTML5 rich media support
  • Support for magnetometer/compass
  • Improved virtual keyboard
  • 24-bit graphics support
  • OpenGL graphics with hardware acceleration
  • Integrated mobile hotspot feature

There’s no word yet on when BlackBerry OS 6.1 will be available or which phones will be supported.
