Sure, the designers at Apple put a lot of thought into the iPhone user interface. But so have the folks at Microsoft responsible for Windows Phone 7. So while it might seem like blasphemy to some Apple fans, an independent developer has put together a theme that makes an iPhone or iPod touch look more like Windows Phone 7.

In order to install the theme you’ll need to jailbreak your device and download some files from the Cydia store for jailbroken apps.

Right now the app is available as a free preview. Eventually the developer will charge for the theme.

Once installed, the home screen of your iPhone will show a series of live tiles with up-to-date clock and calendar info as well as links to the mail, web browser, weather, photos, and Facebook apps. In keeping with the WP7 theme, the developer used the Internet Explorer icon for the Safari web browser which is a little… odd.

You can also open a WP7-style list of installed apps. You can scroll up and down to find the app you want to launch, or tap-and-hole an app to pin it to the start menu, which adds an icon to the home screen.

You can check out a video of the OS7 demo after the break. Installation instructions are available at modmyi.
