Rovio has launched a new version of the popular Angry Birds game for Google Android with a couple of important changes. First, there’s a new “graphics toggle” option which removes some of the background elements and other graphics to make the game easier to play on phones that don’t have the latest and greatest graphics processors.

The other major change in Angry Birds 1.5.1 is that Rovio has added 30 more levels of gameplay. These levels were already available in the iOS version of Angry Birds, but the update means that iOS and Android versions of the game are now pretty much the same. The plan is to keep both versions in sync from now on.

Some users have noticed that the latest version of the app requires access to your phone’s SMS, but the company says that was a mistake which will be addressed next week.

Rovio also says the Valentines’ Day update for Angry Birds Seasons is due out on Monday.

Angry Birds is available as  free download from the Android Market.
