So you’re walking down the street when you get hankering for a fresh muffin, but you can’t remember where the closest bakery is. So you whip out your phone, fire up Google in the web browser and hit the Places tab to find listings for nearby bakeries. You walk a few blocks, start to open the door… and then realize it’s locked because the business isn’t open on Mondays.
Now you an avoid this kind of embarrassment (and unintentional exercise) by filtering for businesses that are “open now.”
Google has rolled out new filtering options for its mobile search engine. The most obvious is the “open now” link that pops up above Places searches. But if you click the >> button you’ll find other options, allowing you to filter by distance or average user ratings.
You can access the new Google Places search engine by visiting google.com using an iPhone or Android web browser.
