Digital comic book service Graphic.ly has released a mobile app for Android which lets you purchase, download, and read comic books on a mobile device. The service has titles from Marvel, IDW, and more than 150 other comic book publishers, with over 2,000 comic books available for download including a few dozen free issues.
Graphic.ly also offers a desktop client and a web-based app. If you already have an account you can login with your credentials to see a list of comic books associated with your account which you can download. Titles you purchased on your phone will also be available in the web and desktop apps.
Overall, the Graphic.ly app for Android is attractive and offers a decent collection of titles which makes it a decent alternative to the Comixology app for Android. But I find it easier to navigate in the Comixology app. When reading comic books in Graphic.ly, I wouldn’t have figured out how to zoom in to make the text in a panel actually readable if I hadn’t stopped to read the instructions. And in the Store and My Collection tabs, I got lost several times trying to find my way back to a previous menu.
Graphic.ly is available as a free download from the Android Market. The app supports Android 2.1 and up.
The company also offers iPad and iPhone apps, but it looks like Graphic.ly for Android is meant to run on both tablets and smartphones.
