The developers of the popular video game Minecraft say they’ll bring out mobile versions of the game for the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Android devices by year’s end.

Minecraft is basically a game where you can use building blocks to make… just about anything. That includes everything from houses to functional computers. There are almost 5 million registered Minecraft users, and the game has been purchased 1.3 million times — which isn’t bad for a game that’s still technically in beta.

Developer Markus Persson tells Gamasutra that the mobile version of the game might not have all the features and updates available to desktop players, but instead the mobile app will be optimized with features that work on touchscreen devices.
