The folks at Instagram have been pretty busy lately adding new features to their very popular iOS app.
Instagram is a simple to use and fun application that lets you add spice to your otherwise dull photos taken using your iPhone. I mean, admit it, the iPhone’s camera is not powerful enough to produce interesting photos, right? So, what Instagram does is to let you apply various photo filters. Instagram also has social features that let you share your pictures on Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, Posterous, & Facebook as quickly as you’ve taken these photos. If you’re a Foursquare users, Instagram lets you check in if you’ve posted a photo with location.
The updated Instagram 1.5 adds the following new features:
- New tilt-shift-effect that gives your photos depth of field
- Email as a sharing option
- @mention username of your Instagram friends
- Add geo locations to photos without needing to name the location
- Cleaned services list
- improvements in filters
Of all those new Instagram features, what really made my day was the addition of the new tilt-shift-effect. This photo filter will surely delight those who are fond of taking photos in close up and portrait mode. Now, you can finally achieve the DOF for your photo even without setting all the parameters you’d use with a professional DSLR camera. It’s worth mentioning also is the @mention which now makes it easier to share your Instagram photos to your buddies.
Instagram is available now as a free download from the App Store.
