NYC Transit is a slick new app for Windows Phone 7 that puts a series of MTA maps in your pocket. The free version of the app provides rail routes including the New York City subway system, while the $1.29 premium version of NYC Transit adds information for buses.

You can view routes for all of the city’s transit lines at a glance, or zero in on a particular route to find station information. There’s also a “find me on the map” feature which locates your position on a map of the city, making it easy to find your way to the nearest bus or train station.

There’s also real-time status information, which will let you know if trains are delayed or rerouted.

One thing the app doesn’t appear to do is actually provide directions. You’ll have to consult the map the old fashioned way to figure out how to get from point A to point B.

  1. Check out “bus new york city” for the iPhone. Loads of great features- newly released and is quickly becoming my most useful app.
