SoundHound is an app which lets you identify songs as they’re playing on the radio, TV, or anywhere else by tapping a button on your phone. The app uses the mic on your phone to listen to the song for a few seconds and then lets you know the name of the song and performing artist. The company offers a free, ad-supported version of its app, but today you can grab the ad-free SoundHound Infinity app for free from the Amazon Appstore. It normally runs $4.99.

SoundHound Infinity also offers a home screen widget which you can tap to identify a song without launching the full program. There’s no widget in the free version.

The Amazon Appstore has been doing a pretty good job of finding high quality apps to promote with free one-day promotions, but so far most of the featured apps have been games. SoundHound is one of the best utilities to make the list so far.

Unfortunately the Amazon Appstore is only available in the US. If you’re in any other country, you’ll still have to pay $4.99 to get SoundHound Infinity from the Android Market.
