For the past few weeks Twitter’s iPhone app has featured a bar at the top of the screen that shows trending topics and promoted tweets. In a desktop web browser, the feature might make sense. On a mobile app, the so-called QuickBar simply takes up too much space. In fact, initially the bar rested on top of other content, making it impossible to see all of your tweets. Users weren’t that happy, and quickly named it the DickBar, both referencing Twitter COO Dick Costello, and well… you know.
Twitter responded by making the bar a bit less intrusive… but that didn’t really placate users, and now Twitter is willing to call the QuickBar a failed experiment. A new version of the company’s iPhone and iPad apps is due out today and it will remove the QuickBar.
