Smartphone maker HTC has announced plans to roll out a new video streaming service called HTC Watch. The first smartphone to feature the service will be the upcoming HTC Sensation.
HTC Watch will let users watch movies on smartphones using 3G or WiFi connections. At launch a few hundred movies will be available for rental or purchase.
The company first mentioned HTC Watch when launching the HTC Flyer tablet in February, so it looks like the service will be available for both phones and tablets.
The service uses progressive downloading, so you can start watching a movie with a press of the button without waiting for the whole thing to download.
Vodafone will be the first wireless provider to offer the HTC Watch app, and it should expand to other European providers this summer. There’s no word on if or when HTC Watch will be available in the US.
