HTC has announced that the latest version of its Sense user interface for Android phones and tablets will only run on the company’s newest devices including the HTC Flyer tablet and HTC Evo 3D and Sensation smartphones. That’s because older HTC devices just don’t have the hardware required to handle some of the new features in HTC Sense 3.0.

The new devices will have speedy processors including dual core chips in the smartphone and a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chip in the HTC Flyer, not to mention the latest mobile graphics chips. It sounds like HTC Sense 3.0 will need that kind of hardware to do its thing.

Sense 3.0 features a series of new home screen widgets as well as lock screen widgets. But it’s likely the new 3D animated effects that will require faster hardware.

Update: It looks like some aspects of Sense 3.0 may work on older phones, but you won’t get the whole experience.
