If you’re a billiards fan, you’ll love [itunes link=”http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/snooker-club/id414866654?mt=8&uo=4″ title=”snooker club” text=”Snooker Club for iOS”], a pool app by Future Games of London. Snooker is a billiards game that is quite popular in Commonwealth countries, which are mostly former British colonies. It’s on a 12-foot table (3 feet longer than an average pool table) with 22 balls. The person who sinks the most balls wins the frame, and the person who wins the most frames wins the game.
Despite being unfamiliar with Snooker, I found the app to be one of the best billiards games in the App Store. It has natural and intuitive touch controls, sophisticated AI, and includes one and two player modes.
The best aspect of Snooker Club is its focus on high quality HD graphics, which are reminiscent of the graphics found on the billiards games on the Nintendo 64. After pushing past some nostalgia, I noticed the ball physics were ultra realistic, which adds a nice (and important) touch to a pool app.
For now, the goal in the game is to earn credits playing other characters (attractive women) in single player mode to unlock more advanced players, and then save them up for online multiplayer betting (which “is coming soon”). The app is also expected to add more characters to the fold in May ’11.
