The Cydia Store is the go-to spot for apps that run on jailbroken iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. But Cydia is only available on your device and searching for apps can be kind of slow, clunky, and, well… painful — especially if you don’t already know the name of the app you’re looking for. But there are two web-based search engines that can save you some time.

The first has been around a little while. It’s a desktop Cydia search from ModMyi. You can use it to search by name and description, author section, or a number of other criteria. You can also filter searches by repository, and browse by category , repository, or newly added apps.

Now the folks at Planet-iPhones have launched their own version. On the one hand, it’s actually quite similar to the ModMyi solution, but the new Cydia Search site has a prettier interface and in my testing it’s much faster. There’s also a Top Rated Packages section on the home page, which comes in handy if you’re not really sure what you’re looking for, but just want to find some cool apps for jailbroken devices.

You can’t install apps from either search engine, but you can find details for an app which makes the process of downloading and installing on your phone using Cydia a whole lot simpler.
