Private Browsing in iOS 5

Apple announced 10 of the biggest changes coming in iOS 5 yesterday, but the company made it clear that these were just the tip of the iceberg. All told there will be about 250 changes in the next version of Apple’s mobile operating system…. like this one: Mobile Safari will have a Private Browsing mode.

This feature, often referred to as “porn mode,” is becoming increasingly common in desktop web browsers but we’re just starting to see mobile browser developers add the feature. It allows you to surf the web without saving or caching any data on your device. In other words, once you exit the browser there’s no way for anyone to see what sites you’ve visited or what files you may have downloaded.

I’ll let you figure out for yourself why people call it porn mode, but the feature has a number of uses. For instance you can enable private browsing when you want to borrow a friend’s device and login to check your email without logging out of that person’s account (or allowing their device to remember your login credentials).
