Apple has unveiled a new notification system for iOS 5.0. The next version of the company’s mobile operating system will do away with the pop-up notifications that fill the center of your screen temporarily and then disappear into oblivion.

Now you’ll be able to pull down from the top of the screen to view notifications from all of your apps. Weather information and stock updates will also be visible from this new pull-down menu called the Notification Center.

The system looks an awful lot like the way Google Android has handled notifications from day one — but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. And to be honest, Apple’s implementation does look a little prettier.
