Dragon, a subsidiary of Nuance Communications, recently updated its popular dictation software for PC and paired it with a new app for iOS. The Dragon Remote Microphone iOS application lets you use your iPhone as a wireless mic with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5 (for PC.)

NaturallySpeaking’s retail package includes a microphone, but with the new app, users can opt to use their iOS device as a mic instead.

The ability to take your microphone mobile has the potential to be very important for users who formerly needed to use a wired headset, which requires a computer. However, the app does require that the device be connected to the same WiFi network as the corresponding PC running NaturallySpeaking.

Also, the app doesn’t currently work with Dragon Dictate 2.0 for Mac, but it’s expected to be available soon. NaturallySpeaking 11.5 is a free upgrade for NaturallySpeaking 11 users as a download. Alternately, you can purchase an upgrade DVD for $29.99.

You can download the new Dragon Remote Microphone app for free from the App Store on any device running iOS 4.2 or later.
