Fieldrunners HD

Popular iOS tower defense game Fieldrunners launched for Android yesterday as Fieldrunners HD. As promised, the developer offered the app for free for the first 24 hours to anyone that downloaded the game from the Amazon Appstore. It was also on sale for 99 cents from the Android Market for customers outside of the US. But if you tried running the app on an Android tablet you may have run into some problems. On launch day it was only optimized for phones.

I tested out Fieldrunners HD on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 yesterday, and while the menus all worked properly, when you actually started a game you were greeted with a black screen and sound effects letting you know that you were losing miserably.

Today the developers say they’ve come up with a fix for tablets and it’s already been submitted to the Android Market and Amazon Appstore. It should be available shortly. The update will be free for existing users, so if you snagged the free or cheap app yesterday you should be good to go. For everyone else Fieldrunners HD is now selling for its normal price of $2.99.

After spending a little more time playing Fieldrunners HD yesterday than I should have, I can already say it’s one of the best tower defense games for Android. My other top choice is Robo Defense, but I know some folks are partial to Hex Defense.

  1. It’s good, if only I can pass through level 52! Thanks for the heads up on the update. I have it on my SGS  II, will probably install it as well on my Tab 10.1
