Cable TV provider Cablevision is offering an app that lets subscribers watch live TV on an iPhone or iPod touch. Cablevision previously released the Optimum app exclusively for the iPad in April, but launched a new version this week for the other iOS devices.

Customers will be able to access live TV channels and thousands of videos on demand. As an entirely new feature for the iPad as well, the new app can serve as a remote control for Cablevision set-top boxes, so customers can change channels and settings straight from the device.

Unfortunately you can only stream TV when you’re at home and connected to your home network.

Optimum is available in the App Store for free, and though its compatibility description (iPad exclusive) hasn’t been updated, comments have confirmed iPhone and iPod Touch functionality.
