Skype is best known for its voice, video, and text chat service, but today the company launched a new app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad that lets you get online at a million WiFi hotspots around the world and pay with Skype Credit.
You can use the new app at airports, hotels, convention centers and other locations, and because Skype WiFi only charges you for the minutes you use you won’t have to pay for a full day pass when you only want to get online to check your email before a flight.
Rates start at about 6 cents per minute, but this weekend (Saturday August 20th and Sunday August 21st) Skype will offer users 60 minutes of free WiFi access.
Skype offers similar software for laptop computers.
