The iPhone Dev Team has released an updated version of the popular redsn0w all-in-one jailbreak utility. While there’s still no way to jailbreak a new iPad or any other device running iOS 5.1 (yet), you can now use the latest version of redsn0w to jailbreak just about anything else.
Jailbreaking an iOS device allows you to access settings and files that are normally protected. This lets you install apps that don’t come from the App Store or make other changes to the behavior of your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
Here are some of the new features in redsn0w 0.9.10b7:
- Untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1
- Grab SHSH blobs directly from Cydia
- Show detailed information about your device and what tweaks are available based on your OS and bootloader
The iPhone Dev Team also plans to add a tool soon that will let you restore your system without using iTunes.
Redsn0w 0.9.10b7 is available for download for OS X and Windows. You can find the download links at the Dev Team blog.
