Apple is set to release iOS 6 on September 19th. The company’s next-generation mobile operating system brings a new mapping application to replace Google Maps, improved Siri voice assistant functionality, and the ability to do more things from the notification center, such as respond to messages.
The new iPhone 5 and 5th-generation iPod touch will be preloaded with iOS 6 once they start shipping. But starting September 19th you’ll also be able to install the operating system on the following devices:
- iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S
- 4th generation iPod touch
- iPad 2, iPad with Retina display
Other new features in iOS 6 include OS-level Facebook integration, a Do Not Disturb option for the phone app, support for FaceTime video calling over cellular networks, and an offline reading list for the Safari web browser.
